Balance, Contrast, and Kaleidoscopes

My first kaleidoscope has very dark colors with pops of blues and pinks. The original photo was a light sculpture near PSU which I cropped and changed the colors to be brighter. I liked this photo for a kaleidoscope, because the photo has many different lines that connected to create an abstract pattern.

I liked this kaleidoscope, because it resembled a flag and had a contrast in both color and texture. I also liked the way each of the lines connected, whether it was the vines, the fence, or the freeway. The original photo of this kaleidoscope is a fence that has vines along it and the freeway below. I changed the colors of the smooth textured freeway and enhanced the greens on the fence in which the vines are hanging on.
In this kaleidoscope you can see two faces staring at each other, as if they were ready to fight. I liked this kaleidoscope, because it created an image with a very different look and feel than the original photo. The original photo was a fire pit on the beach ready for a nice family gathering, but with enhancing the blacks and changing the image into a kaleidoscope the feel of the image became spooky and dark.

This kaleidoscope is very colorful with so many different patterns and textures throughout. I liked the original photo, a tree stump covered in mushrooms, and with a lot of editing I could bring out all the natural colors to create a kaleidoscope that really pops. This is my favorite kaleidoscope for it has a different feeling then the rest, a feeling of happiness and design.

Contrast in Scale
Beaches remind me of wonderful sunsets and a sparkling ocean, so I added warmth to the photo and blacks to give the dogs and my friend Sam a shadowed look. Helping the observer see the contrast in scale from the rocks to those on the beach. All the editing made a cloudy day seem sunnier, while the clouds still add a different texture to the photo.

Contrast in Texture
This photo shows three different textures, the grate, the shoes, and the rock cement. I liked how the colors all represent the fall season and how the grate became a golden color to match the leaves. The leaves add extra texture and feeling of the fall season.

Contrast in Texture
This photo I refrained from editing, for I believe the original photo already has a good contrast in texture. The moss is very clear, while the sky behind is blurred and mixed with the trees. I chose this photo, because it has a diagonal balance and three different texture, two being very distinct.

Rotational Symmetry
This photo shows a bike in the city with enhanced coloring on the street lines and the bike rack. This photo also shows a contrast in scale as well as rotational symmetry, with the bike appearing much larger than the cars behind.

Color Contrast
I liked this photo, because the colors are very distinctive and bold. This photo has color compliments of orange-yellow and blue-purple. I added saturation to the leaves and changed the brown dirt and rocks ,that the leaves had fallen on, to a blueish color making the color contrast more obvious.

Color Contrast
This photo showcases a peeling paint job and the color contrast between the previous paint color and the color it was more recently painted. I cropped the picture to show the detail at the bottom of the lamppost and added saturation and vibrance to enhance the bold colors along the pole.

Symmetrical Balance
This photo shows symmetrical balance and old architecture. I liked the textures of the wall and the design of the the metal grate over the window. The original photo was only black and grey, so I added extra saturation to each color to give the photo a bolder look.

Diptych
This diptych is the same photo with the camera lens zoomed on different parts of the photo. I liked  how the colors popped out in the blurred photo, while the other has a great shot of Downtown Portland and the ice covered mountain in the distance. I chose this picture, because it has a holiday theme and great contrast in texture.

Diptych
These are two different photos that I cropped to create one long river along the beach. I enhanced the blues in the water and took up the saturation on the rocks. I liked how the sky reflected into the water, giving it the same color. I also liked the the contrast in scale with the ocean seeming so small compared to the rocks in the bottom picture.

Triptych
When they put up this mural on the wall this summer outside my building, I always wanted to get a photo of it without busy downtown taking your eye off the mural itself. The mural is skinny and tall, so I took three different photos, one of the bottom, middle and top. I enhanced the colors on the brick and made sure you could see the mural easily.

Triptych
This Triptych is of my building going up. The bottom photo is the first few floors were the offices are, the middle where the apartments are located, and the top being the roof where the windmills are powering the entire building. I changed the color to black and white for the blue on blue was too much for me. I liked how this photo is a growth of the building, but all three photos aren't off the building's shell itself.

Project 3: Grids and Colors

My Choice
I chose the staircase as my choice, because it gave the grid many different diagonals and an arrangement of colors. The images are all the same with different edits. mixing both warm and cool color harmonies. I really like the way the lines match up with each other and how some are similar to the ones around it, while others have a different color scheme, rotation, and cropping.
Happy Mood
For mood I wanted to choose a picture that would brighten up someone's day. I took the picture of spring flowers and added extra saturation and vibrance creating a mood that was happy and warm. Using similar photos I cropped each one differently, zooming in on certain flowers and having an arrangement of flowers on others. This created a grid that was original and fun, and that can easily brighten someone's day.

Color Compliments Grid
To get in the holiday mood, I chose the color compliments of red and green. The colors mix well together, though they are on opposite sides of the color wheel. This plant is fun to edit, because there are two different tones on each of the leaves. I took the picture of the entire plant and cropped it down differently on each box in the grid to create a look that's abstract and original.

Monochrome Grid
This monochrome is a green leaf candle placed on a green notebook. I cropped the picture in many ways and created a grid that has a remake of the original photo with other parts of the candle spread around the the remaining parts of the grid.

Cool Color Harmonies
This hose has a great leading lines effect. I cropped, rotated, and edited each section of the grid. I chose this grid, because the colors work well with each other, though they're not all one color.

Monochrome
This picture is a very strong close up with curved lines and different shades of yellow.

Color Compliments
I choose this picture, because I liked how you could look through the tunnel at more yellow flowers. The bold sunflower to the right adds more to the photo, giving it a asymmetric balance, while the colors are very pronounced and are mixed in a smooth, yet strong way.

Project 1: Final Edits

I chose this Picture because it has the mall, the train station,
and the pole, which both makes a statement and is there as an
extra effect. Everything else is related to the subject, the sign,
itself. It's for the train station and is the stop for
those going to Pioneer Place Mall.

I made this photo in black and white, because there is so
much going on and I wanted to make the subject obvious.
Trains have been around for a long time and the black
and white coloring reminds me of the olden days.

I chose this picture because it looks as if she was posing and
has her friend right by her side.

I found that there were too many cream colors in the photo,
so I decided to whiten the blanket and make her eyes match
the slight amount of blue in the left of the photo. This adds
color and makes my subject not blend in, but make a statement
from the rest of the picture.

I chose this picture, because it shows the subject at a completely
different angle, with a different background. You can see the
modern apple store behind it, with the lights adding some pop.
The trees are also are a great part of the picture and adding
some of the tree from above changes up the photo a bit.

I decided to add saturation to the photo making the colors become
a statement and the sign pop even more. The background, the building,
has beautiful blues in it and with editing, the blue windows look even better.

I chose this picture to show the cat, my subject,
with a bright stunning background that shows her in a sunny
place and also captures another object that's there as an
effect, but doesn't take your eye away form the subject.

To continue with the brightness I made the background
lighter and her eyes pop even more. Now you know she is
in a relaxing place and has the sunlight beating down on her.

I decide to edit this picture, because it showcases the trees
and has my subject as the bold and main focal point. There are also
many beautiful colors throughout the photo.

I changed the colors in the photo to make it more unique and
added saturation to pop those colors out even more. I put
a background on it to make it look as if it was a painting and left
my subject, the sign, without a filter to showcase it even more.

I chose this particular shot, because it really showcases her eyes
and also her mane. It makes you feel like she's looking directly
into your eyes, with her eyes being the focal point of the photo.

I decided to use saturation and make her eyes pop
even more than before. Now you can see her eyes in bold
and still see the color contrast against her plain grey mane.

My Summer

This summer my family went out to our beach house near Rockaway Beach. Every summer on the Fourth of July our block holds a huge party, with a buffet of Hawaii food, a whole pig, a cuban band, and way to many fireworks. This year was our neighbor Frank's 75th Birthday, which happens to be on the fourth of july. I had so much fun hanging out with some of my closest friends and introducing the three new puppies on the block. Sadly it had to come to an end and the rest of my summer was filled with driver's ed classes. My family and I will continue to go to the beach all year round, but being in a tucked away neighborhood, it's never as crowded with friends as the Fourth of July.
